چکیده

Chain flail delimber-debarkers have gained a degree of acceptance in the Southern USA, especially for processing thinnings from pine plantations. TIzis Technical Release compares the quality of chips produced by inwoods chippers teamed with chain flail delimber-debarkers, with chips produced in conventional large-scale woodyards, to g&e a guideline as to what may occur with similar processing of radiata pine in New Zealand Pine chips from the chain flail and in-woods disc chipper compared favourably with pine chips produced ffom drum debarker and disc chippers in woodyards. These in-woods chips were similar in bark content and in he production of chips of an acceptable size. The flails, however, were less effective in debarking hardwood stems than were the drums in the woodyards.

Delimbing Hybrid Poplar Prior to Processing with a Flaiuchipper

Processing whole trees into pulp chips with chain flail delimber/debarker/chippers (DDCs) is costly. Production rates of DDCs are limited by the residence time required to remove limbs and bark. Using a pull-through delimber, we delimbed trees prior to flailing and chipping, with the objective of speeding up the latter processes. Pre-delimbing increased the productivity of the DDC by about 10 p...

fiaXl.ing and chipping

In tree-length harvesting operations, the trees are usually delimbed and topped in the woods. Sawlogs are bucked, and pulpwood is loaded tree-length. The use of in-woods chipping has been limited to energywood production because high bark content limits the use of whole-tree chips as pulp furnish. Flail delimbing and debarking allows economical processing and chipping of whole trees in the wood...

Pulp & Paper Canada T 230 105:10 (2004) ❘ ❘ ❘ 35 wood were interrupted at night or on weekends. Wood supplied to the chippers at this time of year was therefore largely fresh and the age of logs in inventory was generally low. Beginning in the fall, the inventory of cut wood was built up both in the mill’s wood yard and in roadside piles in the woodlands. In winter, this inventory of fall-cut w...

Evaluating Efficiency, Chip Quality and Harvesting Residues of a Chipping Operation with Flail and Chipper in Western Australia

Nacrtak Roadside chipping is a common harvesting system in Australian plantations, which utilizes a mobile chipper stationed at the field edge to produce high-quality pulp chips for export. The studied harvesting system included a feller-buncher, two grapple skidders, a flail-debarker and a disc chipper. The study goals were to determine machine productivity, operation costs, fuel consumption, ...

Compilation of State-of-the-Art Mechanization Technologies for Short-Rotation Woody Crop Production

SUMMARY This report reviews the current state of mechanization of operations, from establishment through harvesting and transportation, for short-rotation hardwood plantations. Given that essentially all of the high production plantations in the U.S. are intended for pulp production, with residues for energy as a secondary product, the report focuses mainly on approaches for producing trees gre...
